The Seattle Cheese Festival returns for a fourth year of cheese-themed fun May 16-18th at Seattle's Pike Place Market. There's a little something for everyone at the Festival this year. For the cheese nerds, there will be seminars given by such cheese luminaries as Jeff Roberts (author of Atlas of American Artisan Cheese), Daphne Zepos of Essex Street Cheese Co.,Peggy Smith of Cowgirl Creamery, Peter Dixon and Laurent Mons. In addition, Seattle restaurants will once again participate during the month of May by designing dishes around cheese themes. And of course, the festival will feature the infamous tasting concourse, where enthusiasts can sample cheeses from local and international producers.
And in addition to all of that, here's what's new and exciting for 2008:
The Grilled Cheese Contest - the deadline for entries has already passed, but the winning sandwich will be featured at DeLaurenti's cafe, and the winner will make their creation at the SCF Chef's stage.
Truckle Relay - you may remember the grand Rolling of the Truckles from last year, won by Kurt Dammeier. This year organizers mix things up a bit by featuring a more complicated Truckle relay, where teams will be pitted against one another rolling 18 lb wheels of cheese four times across the course. Last year competitors had a bit of trouble controlling the unruly wheels of cheese...who knows what may transpire this year.
Children's Parade - on Saturday morning, kids are invited to create their own cow, goat or sheep themed costumes and participate in the parade. Prizes will be awarded for costumes.
