One of my early inspirations, Julie Powell, turned her crazy and insane blog The Julie/Julia Project into a book, now soon to be a movie. Hers was one of the first online food blogs that grew into a book (somewhat ironically, going backwards into traditional media). These days, many of my favorite food bloggers are also working on books (see here, here, here and here).
Now it's my turn.
After four plus years of traveling to farms, talking to cheesemakers and writing the words that make up Pacific Northwest Cheese Project, it's thrilling to say that in just a few months I, too, will have a book of my own.
That tome, aptly titled Artisan Cheese of the Pacific Northwest, will be out in the Spring of 2009. It will be a guide to regional cheesemakers (including, by my own definition, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and British Columbia), with some additional things like recipes and advice about cheese basics and caring for and storing cheese. The book represents the accumulated wisdom - such as it is - I've gathered over the time that I've worked on this web site and it's both exciting and terrifying to see that turned into book form and (gasp!) already available on Amazon.com. Look for it in stores - and cool cheese shops - sometime in April.
