The time is fast approaching. The Seattle Cheese Festival is upon us once again - in fact, it's happening next Saturday and Sunday May 15-16th, 2010 (disregard the banner dates, above - that's from a previous year!) This Festival is undoubtedly the Northwest's largest celebration of cheese, offering opportunities galore to sample cheese, taste wine, learn about making cheese and cooking with cheese.
I want to particularly call your attention to *** this year's seminars ***. Organizers have put together a great lineup of prominent speakers who will delve into weightier matters like affinage (the art and science of aging cheese), Basque cheeses, cheese pricing and such. Even better, these focused classes offer the opportunity to taste through a composed cheese plate with experts in the field. You can listen, ask questions and even meet these folks in person. So if you really want to concentrate on cheese at the festival this year, trust me, this is where you want to be.
A few of the featured speakers at this year's seminars:
Allison Hooper of Vermont Butter & Cheese Creamery (VT)
Mary Keehn of Cypress Grove Chevre (CA)
Kurt Timmermeister of Kurtwood Farms (WA)
Daphne Zepos of Essex St. Cheese Co. (NY)
Mateo Kehler of Jasper Hill Farm (VT)
