Siskiyou Crest Goat Dairy is not closed! I don't know where you received that information. It is more alive than ever providing raw! goat dairy products to its community in Oregon. I think their shift to a herd-share is awesome and forward thinking.

I imagine that there are many, many additional things that could have been included - be they restaurants, markets, food purveyors, etc etc. I suspect that the fact that it's not there is probably more a matter of editing and culling....not a commentary about the restaurant itself. Or do they pay you to comment on blogs?!

I own the book but am still baffled as to why Ned Ludd wasn't included. Jason French is doing amazing things there.

I had the pleasure of sharing Kathy's cheeses with hundreds of people while at the Urban Farmer, particularly Adelle, Valentine and Scio Heritage. They were always so well received and loved, and I'm so glad they're still being served!

Kirstin- I believe you have hit the nail precisely on the head (re: wood burning stoves)!! Raises interesting questions about the tension between old foodways and the new emphasis (perhaps new paranoia?) about safety.

I heartily agree - artisan cheesemakers are desperately in need of a strong representative voice out there in the media and in the political and regulatory realms.

Here is where the American Cheese Society and its membership needs to step in with the strongest possible support both financial and political.

So wrong. After 31 years how ridiculous that they're going after the ones without problematic records. I'm thinking that wood burning stoves don't have a section under "Grade A Dairy" = issue.
